The days of the 50’s were filled with poodle skirts, fender skirts, and bobby socks and great cupcakes. Another big icon of the 50’s would be the famous soda fountain. So, why not bring the 50’s back with these great 50’s sock hop cupcakes designed just like the old soda fountain milk shake.
To create these 50’s sock hop milkshakes first assemble the ingredients needed: cooked and cooled cupcakes, plastic straws, scissors, frosting with an o-shaped piping bag, Maraschino cherries drained and dried, and sprinkles.
The first step in creating these iconic 50’s sock hop cupcakes would be to cut the straws about 3-4 inches down to make them shorter then, bend the sipping end. Next take the piping bag with the o-shaped ring and swirl the frosting onto the cupcake. Allow the frosting to set for a bit before applying straws.
The final step in creating the 50’s sock hop milkshake cupcakes would be to add the cherry and straw. You can chocolate sprinkles for an added touch.
If the 50’s sock hops milkshake cupcakes are not your style then why not create a poodle skirt cupcake? To begin, make the cupcakes according the recipe or box and bake and cool completely before frosting. Be sure to use pink cupcake liners when baking.
Once the 50’s cupcakes poodle skirts have had time to cool, frost each one with pink frosting. Then take a white dog figurine or, create one of your own onto the bottom of the skirt. Another great idea is have the skirt standing up by using pink card stock and popsicle sticks. Simply cut the card stock into the form of a flared skirt to represent the poodle skirt. Then simply place the dog, (can also be made out of white card stock) at the bottom of the skirt. For added touches a local party supply store will have other great 50’s sock hop decorations for the party.
