Cincinnati Chili Recipe

Cincinnati Bengals Theme Party. The weather may be cold outside during football season, but the chili is sure to warm everyone up.
Use the following recipe to make traditional Cincinnati chili.
5 bay leaves
1 teaspoon of whole allspice
2 pounds ground beef
2 cups onion, chopped
½ teaspoon bottled minced garlic
2 Tablespoons chili powder
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
4 cups water
1 – 15 ounce can red kidney beans
1 – 8 ounce can tomato sauce
1 Tablespoon cider vinegar
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
½ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon pepper
Hot cooked spaghetti
Sliced green onion
Grated parmesan cheese
Place the bay leaves and the allspice in a thick 6 inch square of cheesecloth. Pull up the corners and tie with cotton kitchen string. In a Dutch oven cook the ground beef, onion, and garlic until the meat is browned. Drain off the fat and pour the meat back into the Dutch oven. Add the chili powder, cinnamon, and cayenne pepper and cook for 1 minute. Add the water, kidney beans, tomato sauce, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and spice bag to the meat. Cover and simmer for 30 minutes. Uncover and continue to simmer for 15 minutes. Remove the spice bag and spoon the chili over the spaghetti noodles. Top with green onion and parmesan cheese before serving for the true traditional Cincinnati chili.
