Hanukkah is probably the most well-known Jewish holiday, so why not celebrate with some home-made delicious cupcakes? Hanukkah is an 8 day long festival, starting on the 25th of November, or Kislev as it's known amongst Jews. It's extremely popular, especially because of how close it is to Christmas, so celebrating with some great cupcakes will be a fantastic way to kick off this festival.
Hanukkah is also known as The Festival of Lights, so this could be a great place to start for your cupcakes. How about some stars? Stars are the perfect symbol for a festival of lights. There's a fantastic recipe for really light, beautiful cupcakes in lovely pastel colors below, so consider picking up some of the ingredients while you're getting your party supplies!
What you'll need for your Hanukkah cupcakes: Silver baking cups, 18.25oz of yellow cake mix, 16oz of ready-to-spread white frosting (or make your own!), blue food coloring, blue decorating sugar, white fondant and 1 pastry bag.
To make your Hanukkah cupcakes:
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Place the silver baking cups in cupcake tins and set aside. Prepare the cake mix following package directions for 24 cupcakes (or again, you could make your own). Spoon the batter into the baking cups. Bake following the package directions (17 to 23 minutes). Allow to cool.
Tint frosting light blue and spread the top of each cupcake with the tinted frosting. Sprinkle the top of the frosting with blue decorating sugar. Make and assemble the stars with the following instructions:
Roll out the white fondant to 1/8 inch thickness.
Cut out 2-inch Jewish stars using a cookie cutter.
Spoon the remaining blue frosting into a pastry bag fitted with plain tip.
Pipe a blue outline of the star with the frosting .
Sprinkle the tops of the stars with blue decorating sugar and shake off the excess sugar.
Place stars on top of frosted cupcakes.
