A Hawaiian Party will be a tropical wonderland where family and friends will be able to lay back and "hang loose." Start with invitations of a "Hula Dancer" or other tropical scene. Decorate your yard with lots of Tiki lamps and flowers and grass shacks. For your tables decorate with beautiful wood plates, bowls and platters. It would be fun to have guests come in grass or Hawaiian skirts with bikini tops or coconut bras and the guys could just wear their Hawaiian shirts with shorts. For a fun activity you could have your guest make "leis". You will need to provide them with the flowers, dental floss or thread and a large needle. You could give prizes for the best "Lei." This wonderful Hawaiian tradition. Another Hawaiian game is called 'ulu maika (rolling stone disks), played much like horseshoes, whoever throws their stone closest to the stick in the ground wins. A Hula Hoop contest with the winner being the one who keeps it up the longest or does the most interesting tricks. Now for the food: "the Kailua Pig", this is traditionally cooked in the ground with lava rocks but is also delicious done in the oven. Then there's Huli Huli Chicken (barbequed chicken) or Lomi Lomi Salmon. End this feast with Haupia (coconut pudding). Recipes can be found on line.
