Hippies Recipes
Veggie BBQ Burgers Those hippies and their veggie loving ways. Well, you can easily emulate the Hippy way with this recipe for vegetarian BBQ burgers. It's made with walnuts for plenty of protien and a great nutty taste. Give these burgers a try and you might like them. 1/2 cup walnuts 3/4 cup cooked rice 1/2 onion, chopped 2 tsp oil 1 Tbsp vegetarian "bacon" bits 1/2 Tbsp barbecue sauce salt and pepper to taste dash garlic powder flour Process walnuts in food processor and pour into a bowl. Process rice and pour in with walnuts. Saute onion in oil until tender and add to walnuts and rice along with the rest of ingredients except flour. Add enough flour to make patties. Refrigerate for 1 hour. Fry in a little oil for several minutes, turning occasionally. Serve on a bun with barbecue sauce and pickles. They don't taste like a real burger, but make for a pretty good meal with nuts. I like these grilled or pan fried with some brown gravy. |

For invitations with a 60's feel, use bright psychedelic colors and large rounded lettering, with flowers, peace signs and iconic pictures from that era. This could be a costume party with prizes for the best costume. Think long wigs, headbands or bandanas, fuzzy vests, bell bottom flares, Afros and Braids. Decorate with pictures of Woodstock, Sonny and Cher add Lava lamps, beaded curtains, and incense. Have signs "Make Love Not War." The food for this party should be from that era so think vegetarian like bean dip, carrot cake and pumpkin pie. Have Fondue for cheese and meats or a hot chocolate fondue.
