Kentucky Derby Recipes
Kentucky Mint Juleps The Kentucky Derby is a horse race that traditionally makes up the Triple Crown Races every year. It's oh so popular and everyone who goes to the event has to wear a nice hat and sip on these delicious Kentucky Mint Juleps. Put 6 sprigs of mint in glass with 2 teaspoons of sugar. Muddle gently with the back of a wooden spoon until mixture forms a paste. Fill halfway with crushed ice, add 1 1/2 jiggers of bourbon. Don't stir. Fill rest of the way wtih crushed ice. Stick it in the freezer until the glass frosts. Garnish with mint sprigs and a straw. Let me just say this…you can't have just one Mint Julep. |

If you are planning on having a Kentury Derby Party, first decide if you are going to have an elegant southern affair or a more casual backyard bash. For the elegant affair use your finest silver, crystal, linens and china. Decorate with large bouquets of red roses. Have your florist design a horseshoe shaped wreath of roses as a centerpiece for your table. Serve a beautiful luncheon buffet with tea sandwiches, dips, cold seafood and assorted salads. Have your guests come dressed in their most dramatic or creative hats and give prizes for the best in each category. Have large TV's available and give all your guests Racing Forms so that they can pick their favorites and bet if they want to in a betting pool. For the more casual bash, plan a southern barbeque with ribs, biscuits, corn on the cob and salad. Decorate with red and white checkered tablecloths and spring flowers or roses. If you have horse figurines, you could put these on the tables. For either party, Mint Juleps are the drink of the day. For dessert serve Kentucky Derby Pie or Chocolate Bourbon Balls.
