Pool Recipes
Watermelon Soup Don't throw that pool party without some tasty treats to throw on the buffet. This Watermelon Soup makes a fantastic presentation at any party and it's great to snack on while you're waiting for the BBQ to finish up. 1 oz dried mushrooms 4 oz bamboo shoots 4 oz green peas 4 oz lean ham 2 cups chicken stock 6 oz chicken 6 oz pork 1/2 tsp MSG (monosodium glutamate) 4 lb watermelon Cut the mushrooms into small pieces and soak in boiling water for 1 hour. Cut the bamboo shoots into thin slices; shredd or mince (grind) the ham. Bring the stock to the boil. Mince the chicken and pork, add to the stock and simmer for 10 minutes. Add drained mushrooms, bamboo shoots and ham, mix well and add the MSG and peas. Cut the top from the melon and scoop out the seeds and some of the pulp. Pour the soup into the melon and replace the top. Stand the melon in a basin and steam for about 1 1/2 hours or until the melon is cooked. The correct way to serve this soup is to place the melon on the table and scoop out soup and flesh, cutting the peel down as the level of soup is lowered. I highly recommend this soup to anyone who would try it. |

A Pool Party is hot and cool at the same time! On your invitations you could put a cool picture of a pool party or any pool scene. You could also make the invites out of aqua blue paper and say something like "You’re invited to Dive in at the .............house for a Pool Party. Bring bathing suits and towels!" The pool will be its own decoration but you could add pool toys, floats, umbrellas, chairs and add great outdoor beach music like the Beach Boys, Bob Morley, and Jimmy Buffet's "Meet me in Margaretville." Of course the games for this pool party will include Marco Polo. The table with be set with sunny yellow cloth and blue plastic tableware. Centerpiece could be Daffodils or Roses. Refreshing drinks might include frozen ones like Pine Coladas, Margaritas and Daiquiris. For the younger crowd a softer version of drinks will be appreciated. Serve Tortilla Chips and Salsa, Mango and Shrimp Wraps, Thai Chicken Wraps with Spicy Peanut Sauce, Greek Salad and any other Barbequed outdoor foods will be a hit at this fun pool party.
